Plus size women who are also pregnant face several special challenges, including when shopping for clothes. Plus size maternity clothes are easier to find than the used to be. There are many local stores as well as online businesses that cater to this niche market. Many even offer sales and bargains.
A woman doesn't need to rush right out to buy plus size maternity clothes, because there aren't big changes for a few months. One exception may be in bra size because breasts may enlarge long before the waistline does, and a properly fitted bra is a necessity. A wise woman invests in nursing bras instead of just buying larger regular ones. These will give excellent support through pregnancy and be perfect for nursing after baby arrives.
Getting a professional fitting is really recommended because your old ones may not even be close to your pregnancy size. Don't buy too many at first, either, because size can change again later in pregnancy. Women who have never even thought about it may want a leisure bra for sleeping. Breasts may need support 24/7 during pregnancy.
Don't start buying and wearing maternity clothes until you absolutely have to. If you start wearing too many plus size maternity clothes when you first learn you're pregnant, you will get very tired of them by the end of the pregnancy. A plus size dress is made with extra give room which may be fine in early months but too tight towards the end of the pregnancy. After delivery you will want to continue wearing maternity clothing for awhile, especially if you will be nursing.
When you are pregnant, you may find that you tire much more quickly than usual and simply don't have the energy to get everything done. It makes sense to choose plus size pregnancy clothes that are easy to care for to conserve your "oomph" for things you really want to do. Clothing that needs fussy hand washing or that merits a trip to the dry cleaners when you are worn out won't seem near so attractive as a cute outfit you can just toss into the washer and dryer.
As with other plus size fashions, maternity fashions in plus sizes are much more difficult to find, and when you do they are more costly. One way to shop for these is to use the clothing store as a place to find sizes and brands that you like, then go online to look for comparison deals on these items. Plenty of websites are available for discount and clearance sale type prices, in fact many stores will have a larger selection of all types of clothing on their website than in the store.
Remember that regular clothing with a loose fit or that has elastic or a drawstring at the waist will also work well into your pregnancy. This option is also more economical as it will be something that you can also use after your pregnancy, as well as saving you money now.
